Refilling Ink Cartridges

Refilling printer ink cartridges can be a messy business but if you take the necessary steps it can cut your printer ink bill in half. Refilling Epson ink cartridges such as the Epson DX4450 ink cartridges can be a tiresome job because they consist of four separate colour cartridges and when you consider that you can buy third party compatibles for half the price of the genuine OEM Epson inks refilling looks less attractive. However for other printer such as Lexmark and HP ink cartridges contain a lot more ink and the compatibles available for these printers offer less of a saving so refilling these cartridges can save a lot of money. If you are considering refilling these cartridges you must make sure you have all the necessary equipment including a pair of suitable gloves, syringe and a suitably prepared surface with paper towel to catch any ink spills. It is always best to refill the cartridges before it completely runs out as this will give the sponge inside the cartridge less chance to dry out. If the sponge has dried out it will not absorb any ink and the ink will not flow through the cartridge and therefore not put any ink onto the paper. For the best results refill the cartridge when it is half empty. For black cartridges there is a less messy alternative and it called a PowerPad and is made by a company called Pelikan. The cartridge sits into the PowerPad and slowly absorbs the ink from it automatically refilling itself – clever stuff. Unfortunately these are only currently available for a small selection of HP black ink cartridges.
